General Information

To begin the process, reference material of the commission’s subject will need to be provided. These references can be a wide range of offerings, though some examples include artwork/images of a scene or character, written stories, descriptions, or similarly styled musical compositions.

Copyrighted material is completely off-limits without the consent of the content’s creator. If any form of copyrighted material is to be used, it is up to the commissioner to provide explicit permission from the material’s creator. Examples include lyrics or poetry written by other artists, quotations of other compositions, or names of people/places from copyrighted settings.

Solo instrumental commissions consist of one primary keyboard instrument (or similar) such as a piano, harp, organ, or harpsichord. They may also include a few simplistic additions (sparse percussion or atmospheric elements, for example) at the composer’s discretion.

Full orchestral commissions are much grander in scale and include the instruments/ensembles that are typically found in a cinematic symphonic orchestra (woodwinds, brass, percussion, keyboards, and chorus). Orchestrations (which instruments are used) for the final product are mutually agreed upon by the commissioner and the composer throughout the process.

Various sketches that serve as works-in-progress will be shared throughout the composition process. A 20% ($25 minimum) non-refundable deposit is required before any project sketches are composed and shared for discussion. Each project typically begins with a short piano sketch for initial discussion of ideas between the composer and commissioner. Subsequent sketches may be provided for further discussion (such as alternate ideas, orchestration decisions, or choices for endings). The final product is always provided for the commissioner’s review before publication.

The timeline of the project may vary depending on the size of the composition, though projects are typically completed within one month after the initial sketch discussion. Upon completion, all projects are published to both YouTube and SoundCloud. An MP3 file of the project can also be provided upon request for personal/non-commercial use.

Terms of Service

  • Payment is exclusively through PayPal.

  • A 20% ($25 minimum) non-refundable deposit is required before any work on the composition is begun. The commissioner is free to pay the full amount up-front in lieu of the 20% deposit.

  • The commissioner is permitted to freely repost and share the composition via links to YouTube and SoundCloud.

  • The commissioner may utilize an MP3 of the composition for personal/non-commercial use, but credit and/or links to the composer’s website and/or social media should be included where the composition is used for public consumption.

  • The composer reserves all rights to the composition. The commissioner is not permitted in any way to claim ownership of the composition. All compositions are registered via ASCAP under the ownership of the composer and his publication company and are protected under music copyright law.

  • If applicable, the commissioner reserves all rights to the subject material of the composition. In the case of original subject material that is owned by the commissioner (such as a character and/or location), the composer will credit the commissioner accordingly in the description of the composition.

  • The composer reserves the right to refuse a commission from anyone.

  • Any breach of these terms may result in the removal of the project from YouTube and/or SoundCloud.

  • Commercial use and/or exclusivity of the composition can be discussed with the composer. Those services are offered for additional fees.
